The IPA Climate Committee works to bring psychoanalytic ideas to bear on understanding the climate emergency. We focus on the human climate and how it drives physical climate derangement and vice versa.

Areas of our current work include:

• Writing and giving talks on the relevance of psychoanalysis to understanding the climate emergency and how it affects our work with patients and society at large

• Focusing on climate anxiety and climate trauma in children and adolescents

• Working to embed the area of the climate and the environment as an integral part of psychoanalytic training

• Learning from other cultures how to perceive nature and living differently

• We undertook a research project in the Himalayas in India to study the effects of severe climate impacts on local people

The committee wants to hear your thoughts and feelings on the climate catastrophe and psychoanalysis. We are looking forward to a stimulating group reflection and discussion about a topic that can be difficult both for patients and analysts.
